Haselbach
Surveying Instruments Inc. has its roots deep in the origin of modern
surveying instrumentation. Hans Haselbach Sr. started the company with two of
his sons after a 40 year career with Wild Heerbrugg Instruments (The
Company that became Leica Geosystems ). Hans started as an apprentice at the
factory in Heerbrugg, Switzerland in 1938 at the age of fifteen Some of the
instruments he built are still in use today.
Hans
Sr. worked for over 10 years at the factory. He held various positions in
engineering, manufacturing and the repair departments. One of his most treasured
memories was being a part of the design team for the Wild T-4 Astronomical
theodilite. In 1948, Hans, with two other men came to the United
States to establish the “Henry Wild Surveying Instruments” office in Brooklyn, N.Y.
This was the first Wild Heerbrugg company office outside of Switzerland.
For
30 years in the U.S. he held the position of Service manager until his
retirement in 1978. It was then that he decided to move West to establish his
own surveying instrument business with sons Erik and Hans Jr. Haselbach
Surveying Instruments was incorporated in 1978. Today at the age
of 80 Hans still comes in to work frequently to help with our service business.
His problem solving skills and attention to detail provide us with valuable
guidance.
